They aren’t pet experts or even enthusiasts. They’re 18 year old kids trying to make money to eat McDonald’s and order chipotle.

Employees just have a job, and it isn’t to provide expert advice like a dedicated reptile store.

As a employee I always tell people the starter kits are awful

is the reptihabitat basically the same thing?

  11. @nisalopez7288 on February 5, 2025 at 9:47 pm

So for a baby is the playsand okay ? When I went to PetSmart they told me to use the carpet for now and get the playsand latter when he is bigger.

  12. @Unhinged_Chimera on February 5, 2025 at 9:49 pm

I might as well be employed by PetSmart. I go there often mostly for crickets. The amount of times i overhear new owners of different critters. I tend to have a list of resources for folks.

  13. @princessambieplayz5539 on February 5, 2025 at 9:50 pm

Anyone else notice that he responds to all the ones agreeing with him but never the one’s mentioning why this is a bad idea?
A – The wood should be cleaned they do have bugs mites AND other things
B – The plastic is different have you heard of food grade plastic?
    Just keeping y’all safe <3

For substrate just go to Home Depot and buy a roll of fake grass call it a day for cleaning you remove it and wash it with a water house and reusable your bearded dragon won’t eat it either I use to use that when I had them for babies paper towels or newspaper is fine just put something on the edges to home down

  15. @Dangerzone-on-yt on February 5, 2025 at 9:53 pm

Hey think you could do a ball python one cause I have one at home and I was wondering on how I could spice up her enclosure

Love this review can’t wait to get mine

  17. @Randomlifewith_lylah on February 5, 2025 at 9:56 pm

Question I was a little confused when it came to the soil. So you could do 70 percent reptisoil and 30 of reptisand correct? So how many bags of each would that be.

  18. @Roobee000 on February 5, 2025 at 9:56 pm

I recently got a bearded dragon from petsmart 2 days ago it was a baby we named it Chester the mascot of Cheetos because he/she was red I was so happy but he/she didn’t eat just drinks and was shaking from 7-10 minutes turns out he/she was SICK I am mad at petsmart because they don’t take care of them properly and now we have a new one Cheeto I named him/her because he/she was orange and if it was a baby it would be Tiny Cheeto but if a adult than Big Cheeto. I get deja vu from Cheeto eating sand because Chester did too,Cheeto runs away from us, Chester ran away from us,when my dad told me I was sad we had to return them and I knew they would take him to the vet but I don’t trust them having him.

    Hope your good Chester❤️

The local PetSmart were I live actually recommended I stay away from starter kits

  20. @jamesbeitia1353 on February 5, 2025 at 9:59 pm

I use 1/4 in wire screen from Lowes. Absolutely no UVB block. Works real well for my bearded dragon. Thanks for the well made video!

  21. @anthonyd4812 on February 5, 2025 at 10:00 pm

How often should I replace the substrate

  22. @josbur-qb3tn on February 5, 2025 at 10:02 pm

    That nike shirt 🔥

  23. @rw3175 on February 5, 2025 at 10:03 pm

Someone must just launch a kit that works for reptiles

  24. @LebronJames-w7p on February 5, 2025 at 10:03 pm

I remember buying it when I first got a bearded dragon, worst mistake ever. Thankful I replaced most of it and the only thing I really still have is the tank but he’s right about the screen

  25. @mclark3745 on February 5, 2025 at 10:04 pm

Did you do any uvb measurements with the original bad thrive top screen and the stronger Zoo med 10.0 T5 22" reflector light? I’m trying to get the distance right and am worried the stronger light will be too strong with the better screen at a 9" basking area.

  26. @Beetlezgrandmakitchem on February 5, 2025 at 10:05 pm

Omg tysm! Ive has my beardie for 4 months and i got that kit! I had no idea that the lid was making him susceptible to mbd!

  27. @jeremycrisp8460 on February 5, 2025 at 10:07 pm

I’m pretty knowledgeable with reptiles, and I’m thinking about getting a bearded dragon after about 10 years of no animals. I wanted a refresher on husbandry, and I couldn’t find a single negative thing about what you said. Great job!

  28. @TheGCDesigns on February 5, 2025 at 10:07 pm

"This is how starter kits should be" This may be true, but if what you showed off were the starter kit it would be well over the $500 mark which is not at all a starter kit, and is easily out priced by just buying your own items online or at local shops. The idea behind these kits is to allow people to get in to the world of owning reptiles for an affordable price.

What the stores really need to do is start explaining to people what the long term upgrades will look like and what that sort of cost that might be, that would save a lot of reptiles from being tossed away when they get bigger.

  29. @aralndinozordunyas720 on February 5, 2025 at 10:09 pm

Theres only one problem,ı live in turkey and theres no reptile pet😢

  30. @pokelover66544 on February 5, 2025 at 10:09 pm

what do you recommend as substrate for baby bearded dragon i have heard loose substrate could lead to impaction

  31. @timeshark8727 on February 5, 2025 at 10:11 pm

wow… how did they manage to mess up something as simple as a screen? So, basically, its a decent glass tank and standard decor and bowls… everything else isn’t really worth bothering with.

  32. @Smashsquadgameslbozo on February 5, 2025 at 10:12 pm

i make my beardies hide out of a cut out of nike shoe box. That hide was 50 bucks!!

  33. @jamisonjohnson624 on February 5, 2025 at 10:13 pm

what a load of BS. Open the video by saying just don’t buy it if you’re going to replace everything but the heat lamp and the glass terrarium!

  34. @kingwavy8585 on February 5, 2025 at 10:14 pm

So I just got my beardie Rex today and I got the starter kit as well is the baskin light bulb that comes with it good enough? Or should I get an upgrade

  35. @JoseLopez-wf6bx on February 5, 2025 at 10:14 pm

Hey bro ! Do you boil the wood from PetSmart ? Or not needed ?

  36. @phenixci on February 5, 2025 at 10:14 pm

What live plants can I use

  37. @Kevin-fi4dn on February 5, 2025 at 10:17 pm

How about if your wanting to use if for a leopard gecko? Would everything be ok?

  38. @BestXJT on February 5, 2025 at 10:18 pm

my bearded dragon wont eat anything but crickets that i give him do you have any advice

  39. @RickyJohnson-cb5xx on February 5, 2025 at 10:18 pm

I don’t have any trees in my backyard and I live in the dumbest place ever so I can’t get tree wood and I don’t want my bearded dragon to have parasites

  40. @timeshark8727 on February 5, 2025 at 10:18 pm

I have never been able to keep any real plants with my dragon for more than about 15 minutes… he _LOVES_ eating plants… and virtually anything else I put in there that isn’t a rock or big stick.

  41. @Tamarionbenton5140 on February 5, 2025 at 10:18 pm

I just brought the same kit but where do I get the lid with bigger holes and where do I get the uvb not the bulb. I need help I’m in Houston Tx

  42. @joelperez6012 on February 5, 2025 at 10:21 pm

How often do you have to change that substrate out?

  43. @JonathanKelley3 on February 5, 2025 at 10:24 pm

He said that you want the uvb and heat lamps together, but he didn’t really explain why. There are two reasons why you want to do this. The first being that you want to replicate the sun as much as possible, and the the sun provides uvb and heat together. The second reason is that with most reptiles they want to have a hot, bright side and a cold, dark side. When you put the uvb light on one side and the heat light on the other, both sides are bright and they cannot get out of the light. No judgment towards anyone who has done this. I once did this for my pet leopard geckos. just wanting to inform people!

  44. @Eric-t3d6p on February 5, 2025 at 10:25 pm

17:53 I got the Ecoflex 120 gallon tank, it seems the top is what you are describing as a good top. Are you planning on reviewing this tank?

  45. @audsdelaney on February 5, 2025 at 10:26 pm

i’m only worried about impaction with the soil for babies, is it safe for a ~4 month old beardie? i have him on paper towels at the moment, but want him to start having the liberty of digging and whatnot- any suggestions?

  46. @koofdome on February 5, 2025 at 10:27 pm

They aren’t pet experts or even enthusiasts. They’re 18 year old kids trying to make money to eat McDonald’s and order chipotle.

Employees just have a job, and it isn’t to provide expert advice like a dedicated reptile store.

Also, don’t even get a kit. Buy an exo terra or PVC enclosure and everything separately over time. I also highly recommend NOT going bioactive unless you know exactly how to. Playing god with bioactive nature is harder than it seems for beginners.

  47. @andrewarango6449 on February 5, 2025 at 10:28 pm

Bro where can I get that screen in the top for my enclosure?

  48. @IdkIdk-q8s on February 5, 2025 at 10:29 pm

Do you just use the reptisoil by itself

  49. @SwooshyDelo on February 5, 2025 at 10:29 pm

What do you think about the nets they reccomend??

  50. @umbraviventem on February 5, 2025 at 10:29 pm

I just got my bearded dragon yesterday, and it seems I need to do some upgrades based on what you have said. I have a question about the bulbs. The kit I got from zoo med has a 2 bulb lamp (the bulbs are right next to each other independently powered) with a daylight and an infrared, and the UVB is its own long lamp. Should I keep that double bulb lamp and just put the UVB next to it, or should I upgrade to a single bulb like you have?
