As a proud owner of the Eames Lounge Chair, configured with Walnut veneer and black all grain leather (tall version), I can tell any potential buyers the following: It is absolutely beautiful and can best be described as "functional art", as far as living room decor goes. Second, it is a lounge chair. Not an office chair, not a couch and not an armchair. Why people would buy this chair then complain about not being able to sit upright or leaning forward in it comfortably is beyond me. It’s not designed for that, hence other types of chairs exist. If you are looking for a comfortable, incredibly well built, sturdy yet plush LOUNGE chair to relax in then you will be very happy with this purchase. It is my favorite chair to watch tv in, read in or just sit back and relax in while listening to my audio books/music. Every piece of this chair is individually replaceable, so as mentioned in the video it will outlast you and your children. Note, not just the cushions or arm rests but everything on that chair can be replaced or repaired. For reference, I am 6’1" tall and I like to slouch while relaxing in it and my head fits into the headrest area perfectly, there is no exaggerated head tilt back onto the edge of the wood "oh my God this is awful" type experience as illustrated in the video. Thats not a knock on the video, I understand he needs to review it from every angle and potential sitting position as possible, but again this is just not something that will happen in real life. Almost done here lol but I would just like to make a couple more points to help with anyone struggling to make a decision… The chair is set to a 15 degree angle, you can not change that but there is "give" to the chair, so its not like you’re sitting against a wall. That angle is designed to provide maximum pressure relief on your spine and lower back (which it absolutely does) and has outstanding lumbar support when sitting in it properly. All of that being said, I also own a LazyBoy "Maverick" recliner and it is an entirely different kind of chair and experience. A chair I highly recommend if you’re just looking for super plush and soft, rocking and reclining where, when reclined, your knees actually elevate above your waist line, taking ALL pressure off of them and can even position into "zero gravity". Basically, just decide what type of sitting/lounging experience you want to have on a daily basis when you get home and buy accordingly. Lastly, I got my Eames on sale for 20% off plus free shipping. This is a sale they run a few times per year. Sorry for the book long comment, I’m just trying to help people with making the right decision for themselves. Feel free to respond if you have any questions I didn’t cover.
One of my goals is to buy an Eames Lounge Chair.
4:03 standard is for people 5”4’ and under but the text says opposite?
I swear you used to have a video on eames replicas and I cant seem to find it…
The « standard » size is the original size. The « tall » size is the new version updated to human size evolution
wearing shoes on that ottoman is the lamest thing ive ever seen
I can’t believe your friend put his sneakers on that ottoman. Didn’t hear a word he said…. Was just fixated on those shoes.
8:50 it looks like he had an ACL surgery on his left knee.
i think this chair is design not for reading books or using phone but for smoking cigars, drinking whiskey, looking at the ceiling
I (pre) inherited one by my grandfather. I used to sit in it all the time when i was a kid when i visited him. He got it in 1962 so the Chair is more double as old as me 😂 made out of rio rosewood which is trade restricted nowerdays so you can’t even buy that spec anymore. Hope I can pass this to my grandchildren one day
I just brought the embody. Now I’m watching this. If herman miller made a bed they would kill the industry.
I’d rather buy one of the high quality copies for between $500 to $1000 instead of buying an original one for over 7K
Charles and Ray used inexpensive materials like molded plywood because they wanted their innovative designs to be affordable and accessible to everyone, meaning “even poor people”, in the recovering economy after the war. Their intention was the democratization and accessibility of good design. History has recast their work and their pieces have now unfortunately become expensive “Grail Pieces”. Charles and Ray were trying to help us all live more beautifully.
Fits you perfectly. I’m 181cm (5’9”) 🤔 About the Daytona.. it’s all manufactured hype!
I love the design of this chair, but its not very comfortable as it only has one sitting position with that awkward back slope. It’s worth every penny and some. The Herman Miller version is beautifully made, but a China copy is a fraction of the price and still quite good. The only error is the copy Ottoman has 5 legs instead of 4. Also, you have to see this design in the context of the 50’s and compare it to all the awful designs being produced at the time.
All the pieces of furniture from the 50s are desirable…
Good luck writing this off as a business expense 😂
I’m sitting in a replica as I’m watching this
Amazing video. Useless chair.
Bro. > means greater. < means less than. You had that wrong in the video.
Seeing that guy put his shoes on the ottoman hurt me.
When I was a kid, my uncle had a music room with two Eames lounge chairs (black leather). To me, it’s a nostalgic thing. I’ll get one when I move to a bigger house 😂
I am 6 4′ and still chair is not big enough for me. My head does not comfortably sit on the head rest
I bought directly from a HM dealer a few hours away, and saved a substantial amount of money. Walnut shell, black leather, tall size. I’m 6’3, and I never found my aunt and uncle’s original Rosewood chair to be comfortable. The tall version, however, is supremely comfortable. I also just love to look at it.
Is the ottoman height adjustable?
I feel like they should make a new even more luxurious version with adjustable lumber, arm rest and third back panel for head rest.
So far this just seems like a pretty art piece that lacks many modern functionalities.
$10k and it’s plywood with a veneer? Bruh…
Glad your video popped up in my recommended tab. I almost forgot about this channel existing, you are the goat of chairs. The level of production value is over the top in the best way possible
You never, ever buy the non-leather version.

My dad had one when I was growing up, not sure if it was real or not but it was lost before he past away when I was younger. One of those core memories for some reason. So it is a chair I would very much like to own one day for other reasons then just the beautiful aesthetic or status.
I purchased a 1964 Eames Lounge Chair in an estate sale & just got it fully restored. It’s been a dream of mine to own one & seeing it restored had me on the moon.
You look like Lang Lang somehow
I like the design. However, I think are over-saturated to the point of predictability. I’d prefer a Barcelona chair.
I bought a reproduction one of these a yr ago. It was a "tall" version. Really comfortable, but as your tall friend noted, when properly seated and leaning back, your head is looking up at the ceiling. I’m also 6′, and it just didn’t work for me. I ultimately opted to return the chair, but I would someday like to buy one again and try to custom design a matching headrest for it. It is a striking piece of furniture and a true work of art. I’ll probably never own a genuine one cause I have cats and I know what would happen
I want two for my music room the low armrest are gonna be sick for playing my custom gear !!
I think you misunderstand how the eams is meant to be used tbh. Its not supose to support your head but instead your shoulders. Use it while on a laptop, reading the paper, or anything else looking forward and youll see what i mean
Check out the "Fields Lounge Chair" by Blu Dot. I found it to be more comfortable than this.
Also the Togo Chair by Ligne Roset is also several tiers above this IMO.
You have leather, then clolth and vegen lea … bullshit.
All the furniture in my house combined is less than half the price of the base Eames Chair :(((
The combo on the chair he’s sitting on, is FUCKIN UGLY. Dude picked the worst combo a person could choose.
Stumbled an old production model one couple years ago sold for pretty cheap nearby. But my gf said it is mad ugly so I didnt pull the trigger. One of the biggest regrets in my life. So far.
I HIGHLY reccomend the XL version for anyone 5” 10" or above. It’s a MUST.
My stepfather, who was an architect, only took one thing from the house when he divorced his first wife: his Eames Chair. I sat it that chair many times, and I will say that it was not the most comfortable chair. The longer you sat, the less comfortable it got. My stepfather was a large man, and he very rarely sat in the chair. He had a large lazy boy which was his main chair. I am guessing that his was from the 1960s. Maybe newer ones are more comfortable. I have never sat in a new one.
Highly informative and comprehensively reviewed. Great job!
Sadly the mass replicas has made this the Memes Chair that every bachelor guy has. Also the sitting position is rough for anyone over 5’10"
If you’re worried about your friends thinking your chair is a fake, spend it on therapy instead, because if your self-worth is tied to what your friends think of your chair, you have bigger issues than needing/wanting this chair 😂
Paid 8 grand for mine. Money well spent
I am in my third chair, this one is after the patent expired; and is no longer overpriced Herman Miller . The last two, HM’s no less ; delaminated at the armrest attachment. In fact a friend put his 6ft weight on them to get out from the chair and the plywood sheared off. If you want a chair for changeable sitting position this one is not that comfortable; the IKEA bentwood cantilever chair with leather seat pad is better and can be rocked slightly; at 5’9” yes , head resting needs a turtle neck tuck; not comfortable; the IKEA one is.
I have one, love it.
Also, highly disagree with getting the "tall size". Unless you are 6′ 4", get the standard. FYI Charles Eames was 6′ and the tall was only introduced later with the proliferation of basketball stars wanting this chair.
